1866 Autograph letter on the printed notepaper of U.S. Naval Rendezvous / Philadelphia, written and signed by James E. Jouett (1826-1902) to Thomas H. Stevens, the American naval officer who commanded the daring night boat attack on Fort Sumter on 8 September 1863. Jouett commiserates with Stevens on the lack of his promotion.
With an 1876 letter signed by Stephen D. Trenchard and John Woodward Philip written from the "Flag Ship "Hartford" at Hampton Roads VA to Ensign (later Rear Admiral) Charles Eben Fox to report for duty aboard the USS Adams (2)
