1815 (28 Feb.) entire letter from Sikh Captains Jitman Singh Basnyat and Tikka Ballav Pandey addressed to Colonel Ujir Singh Thapa, commander headquartered at Srinagar, Kashmir, enclosure bearing the negative seals of the two senders. The letter recounts the events of a battle and states that they "are determined to destroy the enemy forces if they approach, opening fire on them from any convenient location". In response to Colonel Singh Tapa's request for reinforcements, weapons and ammunition, he informs him that "The men are unwilling to go, and we do not wish to be left with insufficient forces, so sending reinforcements is impossible". He further explains that "The enemy is desperate and is burning down the villages of Syuraj daily. Today they moved their camp from Basuria to Dagadaguwa, which is 8 miles from Syugarhi. We will write again, explaining what happens day by day". Provided with English translation; Enclosure measures 85mm x 30mm, letter on thin native paper, 1pp., measures 310mm x 172mm, both fine.
