King George III (1738-1820)
1809 Document signed "George R" by King George III from Windsor Castle during the Napoleonic wars indicating that "The King entirely approves of the arrangements which are proposed in Lord Mulgrave's letter for completing the Naval Force at Lisbon and Cadiz so as to render it adequate to the Services which may be required." (17.5x18cm, staining). The King's health was rapidly declining at this date and his signature is indicative of this. Together with the left hand side only of an army appointment to the Royal Engineers Malta, with an earlier and more distinct signature (10x30cm) (2)
