Letter wrapper addressed by James II "For my Niece the / Countess of / Lichfield", with an impression in red wax of his seal. Charlotte Lee, Countess of Lichfield (1664-1718) was the illegitimate daughter of King Charles II by his mistress, Barbara Villiers. Charlotte was married aged 12 to Edward Henry Lee, 1st Earl of Lichfield. The letter wrapper has an oval ownership stamp of "The Rev. Frederick George Lee, DCL, FSA" (22x16cm opened out)
