Land Bank Scheme
C. 1696 A group of three documents relating to the failed Land Bank Scheme of 1696. Contains a letter discussing the idea to contest the Bank of England's similar scheme with the Land Bank.
This letter also discusses the punishments handed out to anti-bank activists, including John Fenwick, who was executed for a plot to assassinate James II.
Included is a signature of Hugh Chamberlain, the originator of the scheme, and one of the first male obstetricians. Also, the signature of John Chamberlain, a promoter of the plight of the industrious poor.
All three documents in excellent condition. (2.5 x 13cm to 30 x 19cm)
