King Charles I in Oxford to Prince Rupert
1642 (1 Feb.) letter from Oxford, signed at top "Charles R" to Prince Rupert, his nephew announcing his commission to Sir Bainham Throgmorton to raise a troop of mounted soldiers, asking Prince Rupert to "afford him your favourable assistance in such things as with reason he shall request of you towards the expediting of our service". Some age spotting and reinforcements along folded edge, otherwise fine and rare.

Notes: Sir Baynham Throckmorton, 2nd Baronet (1606-64) served as Justice of the Peace in Gloucestershire and Chief of the Forest of Dean (1634-45). From 1642 to 1643 Throckmorton was Sheriff of Gloucestershire and at the start of the Civil War was appointed a Commissioner of Array for King Charles I."
