1840 (Jan. 10), entire letter to the Isle of Wight with two strikes (one upside down) of the Nottingham "Pd 1d." in red, Nottingham c.d.s. of 10 Jan. 1840 across flap on the reverse and red London Tombstone (11.1) on the front. Fine. A rare first day cover of the Penny Post and most unusual from Nottingham. Believed to be the only known example in Private hands showing two strikes used on the first day. Also with charming and encouraging contents from a Grandmother to her Grandson
