Court Bureau
1890 (4 Aug.) envelope from the Bachelors' Club to Kings Cross Railway Station bearing ½d. vermilion and 1d. lilac tied by London N.W. squared circle (a Monday) with Court Bureau 1½d. rose red tied by the boxed "court bureau/sunday postal despatch" handstamp in purple, the reverse with the arrival c.d.s. (4.8); a small part of the flap is missing.

A very significant cover being the only one to bear the 1½d. value. Cover 3 of the thirteen recorded. Photo

provenance:
'Maximus', October, 1970

A. John Lowe, September 1990

This is an interesting cover, it appears that the 1½d. Court Bureau stamp was applied so that the Bureau would add the ½d. and 1d. stamps and put in a convenient pillar box (which would only require a 1d. franking). It could have been carried to Kings Cross station and posted there on the Sunday (receiving the Monday postmark). The Bachelors' Club was in Hamilton Place, near Park Lane and Picadilly
