1916 (July 31). Cover (front missing, reverse preserved) from Argyrokastro (Gjirokastër) to the United States and subsequently returned to Northern Epirus, franked on the reverse with a pair, a strip of three and a strip of five of the 1915 5l. green, correctly paying the single registered foreign rate or a double foreign rate, and Red Cross vignette. The franking is tied by "argyrokastron" c.d.s.'s on dispatch, in addition variably tied by Patras (6.8) c.d.s., Italian censorship marking of Bologna, oval d.s. of New York (18.9), American indistinct transit (10.9) in violet, Patras (20.10) and Ioannina (4.1.1917) c.d.s.'s on its journey back to Northern Epirus in 1917. An extraordinary mail item which was travelling for over five months, displaying a wide range of cancellations. Michel 32.
