Lot: 3138

(x) Northern Epirus
First Greek Occupation (1912-1914)
1913 (Sept. 16). Cover from Tepelenion (Tepelenë) to New Bedford, USA via Sarandë, franked with First Issue 5l. green in a vertical strip of four, tied by "tepelenion" c.d.s. Taxed on arrival with 2c. postage due (corresponding to 10l.). The reverse with "Agioi Saranta" (20.9) and arrival (7.10) c.d.s. Some foxing not detracting. An extremely rare usage of these stamps in Tepelenë, which, together with Sarandë and Gjirokastër, were the last three towns occupied by Greek forces in 1913, as they lay along the border with territories controlled by Albanian forces under Ismail Qemal. Signed Enzo Diena. Michel 19I.
