Lot: 3123

(x) First Independent Albania (1912-1914)
Third Issue
The Only Recorded Inverted Overprint Among the Four Known Examples of This Stamp
1913, 10pa. green (Turkey, 1901 inland mail, Michel 87), the spectacular double variety featuring the overprint in red and inverted. Mint with large part original gum, ideally centred both for the stamp design and the overprint, with well-preserved perforations. Very fresh, with a bold and clean strike of the overprint. The certificate states: "a tiny crease on the right side of the stamp is mentioned for completeness' sake", which in our opinion is entirely insignificant, especially given the immense importance of this piece. This is the only recorded example exhibiting the overprint inverted of this, the third rarest stamp of Albanian philately, with only four examples known and unlisted in catalogues. This auction offers the opportunity to acquire this gem on the public market for the very first time since its discovery. Cert. Otto Graf (2026).
