Auction: 26015 - "The Treasure of the Eagles" Collection of Albania - Part I
Lot: 3093

(x) First Independent Albania (1912-1914)
Third Issue
1913 (Oct. 24). Envelope from Vlorë to the district of Üsküdar in Constantinople, correctly franked with 1913 1pi. ultramarine with inverted overprint and additionally in dark carmine or reddish-brown instead of black, tied by violet dispatch c.d.s., showing on the reverse the c.d.s. of the Italian P.O. at Constantinople, bilingual c.d.s.'s of Scutari (Üsküdar) and Galata in the same city, and roller d.s. of Constantinople, all struck on 30.10. Some minor tone spots, and a vertical archival fold far from the adhesive, not detracting from this rarity. This is an item of particular significance as it shows a double variety on a cover that was not franked for philatelic purposes, but with postage required for commercial correspondence that was actually sent; it is the only known postal-history example with this double variety. Signed A. Diena. Michel 7 (var).
