First Anglo-Afghan War, Quetta to London entire letter, endorsed "per Hugh Lindsay via Persian Gulf" (replacing deleted endorsement "To be sent per overland mail/post paid to Bombay"), bearing "fowarded/by/remington & co." framed h.s. and "india" oval h.s. in red, rated "2/6", contents from Henry Creed of the Bombay Artillery mentioning that "I am not the bit astonished if you do not receive letters regularly from me as the post is often plundered by the enemy" and ending "I greatly fear I will return as poor as a church mouse from this war". London arrival (12 Aug.) on reverse. Photo
