Auction: 26012 - The Dr. Erick Reeber Collection, FRPSL
Lot: 1545

(x) Uganda
1895 (May) Wide Stamps with Pen-written Surcharges
About a dozen examples of the first issue are known bearing a manuscript alteration to the value, accompanied by the initials “G.R.B.” The Rev. George Robert Blackledge was stationed at Ngogwe, some 25 miles east of Mengo. When writing dates, he always wrote the month first.
This remarkable section includes five examples of these remarkably rare manuscript surcharges. The David Sey collection had six, Ferrary and Hind had three each, “Isleham” and Griffith-Jones two each, and Dunstan and Reynard one each.

15 on (50c.) with manuscript pen cross cancellation, showing borders or part thereof on all sides, affixed to piece of same size, fine. Extremely rare. Signed P.L. Pemberton. B.P.A. Certificate (1972). S.G. 14, £75,000. Photo
