The lot includes an 1861 cover franked 3d (damaged corner) addressed to the American missionary Lewis Grout, cancelled by the barred numeral 2 used at Pietermaritzburg in the short period prior to the switch over to numeral 1 that was being used in Durban at that date. A rare cover. Also included is a halfpenny postal stationery postcard (damaged lower left corner) cancelled P.O.A. 10 of Umlalazi. Revised estimate £350-400.
