Within this lot is a significant amount of design studies and material on the Al-Nilin Mosque which features on the 10 Dinar note. The Masjid Al-Nilin (trans. 'Mosque of the Two Niles') is a recognisable landmark in Omdurman, Sudan, overlooking the meeting point of the Blue Nile and White Nile. Completed in 1984, its striking circular design and magnificent aluminium dome make it one of Sudan’s most distinctive examples of modern Islamic architecture. Designed by architecture student Gamar Eldowla Abdelgadir, the mosque was commissioned after President Jaafar Nimeiry saw his design.
