North of Scotland Bank Limited, front essay for proposed issue of £1, 1st March 1938, serial prefix K,

A beautifully refined, hand-executed essay, incorporating separately affixed portrait and building designs to the surface. The adopted 1938-40 £1 design (PMS NS 43a) rejects the portraiture of Sir Alexander Anderson, founder of the North of Scotland Bank, instead presenting an entirely different design and composition. An exceptionally rare and unique piece, particularly significant as the North of Scotland Bank never employed close-up portraiture on its adopted issued notes.

(Pick unlisted, similar to the £5 1937 7th Issue essay listed in PMS page 649), uncirculated, mounted on board, paper label affixed on top of board with text 'Designed by Bradbury Wilkinson & Co Ltd' , staining on board and worn corners, tape and tape residue on reverse, handstamped dates on reverse '23rd October 1937' & '22 September 1937'
