NGC MS61 | General Picton's Relief of Gibraltar, AR Medal, 1783, by L. Pingo, inscription in 17 lines, laurel either side, below a lion couchant, holding a shield of Gibraltar upon a plinth, rev. BATTERING SHIPS DESTROYED on banner over bird's eye view of the bay of Gibraltar, showing positions of batteries and ships, SEPTEMBER XIII | MDCCLXXXII on plinth below, edge plain, 70.46g, 59mm (Eimer 801; BHM 253; MH 1919, 410), the occasional bagmark, largely to reverse, otherwise lustrous and with attractively cabinet toned fields, a charming topographical design, extremely fine, in NGC holder, graded MINT STATE 61 (Cert. #2188752-001)

It is recorded in the Regimental History of the 12th (East Suffolk) Regiment of Foot that these handsome Medals were struck to the order of General Picton, who was Colonel of that Regiment, for presentation to the officers who served with him at Gibraltar.
