Edward III (1327-1377), Transitional Treaty Period, the so-called "Cursing" Half-Noble, 1361, Tower (London), E | DWARDV x' DEI x G x' REX | AnGL x' D, King standing in ship, brandishing long sword and Royal shield set with semé of three fleurs and crescents in first quarter, wearing Royal jupon over brigandine armour, ropes 3/2, quatrefoils 4/4, bow-sprit behind foc'sul, ornaments 1-1-1-, leopards facing left, rev. (i.m.) DOMInE : In : FVRORE : TVO : ARGVAS : ME : double saltire stops, floriate cross, crowned leopards in angles, additional lys in second quarter, annulet-tipped central panel, large E at centre, 3.87g [59.72grns], 2h, i.m. cross potent (LAL, obverse die e; Doubleday 177-178/- same obverse die; cf. Schneider I, 61; North 1223; S.1500), crimped and wavy flan, with edge split at 12 o'clock, otherwise residually lustrous, struck details about very fine, a scarcer die variety of this intriguing type!
