(x) Æthelred II 'Unræd' (978-1016), 'Long Cross' Type, Penny, 997-1003, Thetford, Grimr, + ÆÐELRÆD REX ANGLO, pelleted O re-entered, draped bust left, rev. + GRIM M•O ÐEOD, voided long cross, 1.31g [20.22grns], 6h (BEH 3753; SCBI 17 [Midlands], 254 same dies; SCBI 36 [Berlin], 442 same dies; North 774; BMC IVa; S.1151), subtly crimped and lightly peck marked, otherwise wondrously rainbow toned with rich uniform gun metal patina, a really pleasingly bold very fine, an incontestable 'eye appeal' showstopper for any budding mint collector or connoisseur alike!
