(x) Eadgar (959-975), Portrait Type, Penny, "East Anglian" Group, Bruning, + EADGAR R +, crowned and draped bust right, rev. + BRVNINC MONETAE, unbarred As, small cross pattée in centre, 1.31g [20.22grns], 12h (EMC 1994.0199 this coin; CTCE 376; North 750; BMC v [Coll. no. 2062 var.]; S.1138), faint metal stressing to cheek, otherwise a pretty coin of excellent metal, struck on a broad flan, now lightly toned, a really bold very fine, rare, a connoisseur's piece

Recovered from the productive NHER 25765 site located near a branch of the Icknield Way and investigated between 1986 and 2024. As noted by Heritage Norfolk - "Although the quality of items found is not unusual the total number of finds is notably large. The whole assemblage is indicative of Late Iron Age activity, a large Roman to early medieval settlement and early Saxon cemetery complex spread over a wide area including NHERs 3565, 11743, 11816, 30690, 30754 and 31073. A Roman villa (NHER 3560) has previously been identified within this field, and a Roman hoard comprising a copper alloy and iron cauldron containing two pottery vessels was recovered during metal detecting."
