Early Anglo-Saxon England, Post-Crondall Phase (c. 655-675), Pale Gold Shilling, 'Two Emperors' type, in the style of an Imperial 4th Century Solidus, VAE | N, pearl-diademed and cuirassed bust right, cross-on-step before, rev. Victory (or Angel) spreading wings over two seated Emperors, 1.30g [20.06gns], 12h (SCBI 4 [Copenhagen, Part I], 19-21; SCBI 20 [Mack], 308; North 20; S.767), with a light scuff to chin and resulting furl to edge of flan and stressing besides, otherwise with a glorious honey-golden tone, overlying uniform and extremely sharp devices, a most pleasing extremely fine, a superlative example for this popular type; still seldom encountered in commerce, especially so in this condition and with a secure pedigree
