After Spain established their Protectorate in two parts, a northern strip on the Mediterranean and the Strait of Gibraltar, and a southern part of the around Cape Juby, bordering the Spanish Sahara in 1912.

In August 1926, Prince Moulay Hassan bin al-Mahdi established this as a six-Class Order to reward those who assisted in furthering the interests of the Protectorate. The Collar was awarded very sparingly, only to Heads of State and Princes.
