2nd Royal Lancashire Militia Officer's shoulder belt plate, Victorian era, silver, silver-gilt and enamel, applied with a multi-pointed hobnail gilt crowned circlet of green enamelled laurel leaves encircling a red enamelled rose of the House of Lancaster. The reverse with two hooks and two fastening studs, hallmarks for Jennens & Co., Birmingham 1852, with leather backing, this marked 'VC', lightly toned, very fine

The Liverpool Linnets were reformed for defence under the national the Militia Act 1852, during a period of international tension. Training was for 56 days on enlistment, then for 21–28 days per year, during which the men received full army pay, and the permanent staff was increased. Under the Act, Militia units could be embodied by Royal Proclamation for full-time home defence. On 1 March 1852 Sir Thomas Fermor-Hesketh, 5th Baronet, was commissioned at Lt-Col Commandant.
