(x) The Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Military Division, Knight Commander's (K.C.B.) breast Star by Widdowson & Veale, Goldsmiths & Jewellers, 73 Strand, London, 67mm, silver, gold and enamel, very fine
Widdowson & Veale operated from No. 73, Strand from circa 1835, when they took over the premises previously used by Salter. They were known for retailing high quality silverware, swords and jewellery, which included royal commissions, these including the 1842 silver coronets with Prince of Wales feathers for the eldest son of Queen Victoria, later King Edward VII. They also worked closely with the Duke of Sussex and the Spanish Royal Family.
Their name has been seen on other items of Insignia of the Order of the Bath, variously with the hallmarks for William Neale, who manufactured for their retail business.
