(x) An 'Operation Fustian' group of six awarded to Private G. Grundy, 3rd Battalion, Parachute Regiment, who was wounded in action during the bloody Battle of Primosole Bridge on 13 July 1943

1939-45 Star; Africa Star, clasp, 1st Army; Italy Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45; Efficiency Medal, G.VI.R., Territorial (2053764. Pte. G. Grundy. Para. R.), mounted for wear, good very fine (6)

George Grundy is listed as wounded in action on 13 July 1943, when the 3rd Battalion, Parachute Regiment went into action during Operation Fustian. Serving with 1st Parachute Brigade they took off on the night of 13 July however the drop went poorly, whilst the men of 1st Battalion landed in roughly the correct area and managed to take one end of the bridge, 3rd Battalion was scattered.

Additionally a number of men had been wounded already as a result of flak from an Allied convoy which mistakenly fired upon them. It is unclear where Grundy was wounded as few men of 3rd Battalion made the Bridge however it is entirely possible that he did succeed in doing so.

Grundy survived his injury and returned to Britain after the war and was discharged on 15 April 1946. His medals were issued to him at his home of 74 Leigh Road, Atherton, Manchester on 20 March 1950; sold together with copied casualty rolls and a medal card transcription.
