East and West Africa 1887-1900, 3 clasps, Benin River 1894, Brass River 1895, Benin 1897 (F. Densham, Chf. Sto., H.M.S. Widgeon), minor contact wear and test hole at trunk of bust, otherwise nearly extremely fine and a rare combination

Believed to be one of two 3-clasp medals awarded to H.M.S. Widgeon.

Frank Densham was born at Axminster, Devon on 3 April 1857 and entered the Royal Navy as Stoker Class II on 26 November 1879. Advanced Stoker with London on 1 August 1880 he reached the rank of Chief Stoker on 1 July 1894 whilst serving with Widgeon. This gunboat served of East Africa taking part in a number of the expeditions there over the 1890s, as a small ship she contributed only small numbers to these. As the senior Stoker on the ship Densham was one of- an estimated- two men to have taken part in three of these expeditions. Going ashore on 18 May 1897 he was finally discharged on 2 December 1899; sold together with copied medal rolls and a service record.
