Naval General Service 1793-1840, 1 clasp, Syria (Thomas Wilcox.), heavy edge bruising and contact marks, good fine
Thomas Wilcox served as an Ordinary Seaman aboard the 80-gun H.M.S. Bellerophon during the Syria campaign. Not to be confused with her more famous Napoleonic namesake (the 'Billy Ruffian'), this Bellerophon was originally named Talavera in 1818, then renamed Waterloo, then finally Bellerophon in 1824. Interestingly, during the operations off Syria she was commanded by Captain Charles John Austen, the youngest brother of the famous novelist Jane Austen.
