Book:

'Bombs!'

The old Hun was hard at it laying eggs round Pop last night. One of them dropped on Marie's Kitchen, but didn't do any damage as it failed to go off, which was lucky. Marie supplies the best 'Bubbly' in the village!

There was 'Beaucoup' hate against the Bosch, who only just escaped.
He was caught by the searchlights and held, while 'Archie' gave him a very hot time.

A message came through about 8 o'clock in the evening saying that he was crossing the trenches and heading towards Pop. Immediately our group of protective searchlights, consisting of about a dozen or so, shot their rays into the sky. Then the burst of the bombs as they fell broke the stillness of the night, followed by the shattering noise of Archie just south of us spurting flame and destruction from their long muzzles; first in single flashes then in never easing violence until the whole earth seemed to shake, and the stars to burst, as the shells exploded in little pinpoints of light around the raider".
