William Henry Hodgkinson was born in Kashmir on 13 March 1909, the son of Captain and Mrs W. Hodgkinson. Educated at The Perse School, Cambridge and then joined RAF Halton as an Aircraft Apprentice in January 1926 as part of Entry No. 13. He came out second on the Order of Merit and was offered a cadetship to the Royal Air Force College, Cranwell, that being the highest accolade which could be earned by an Apprentice.
Further showing his skills on the sports field, Hodgkinson earned full Colours for rugby, cricket and athletics, besides being noted as a 'promising pilot'. He was tragically killed in an aircraft crash at Cranwell on 1 April 1930 in a DH9a and his loss was lamented by all who knew him.
Owen Darby was born on 11 December 1919 and entered RAF Halton in Entry No. 33 in January 1936. He died on 17 March 1949 whilst at RAF Upper Heyford.
