William Murdoch Dingwall served with the Royal Artillery as a Bombardier from 1939. In 1954 he was discharged because he had reached the age limit for compulsory discharge for his rank, 45 years old.

William Thomas Jones was born in Porthcawl, Glamorgan. He enlisted into the Territorial Army with the 2nd Line Glamorgan Yeomanry in April 1915. Upon enlisting he worked as a labourer. The 2nd Line was formed in September 1914 and by the time Jones had joined, the regiment were in Carmarthen in the 2/1st South Wales Mounted Brigade, before they moved to Llandeilo and then Dorchester in July 1915. The 2nd Line Glamorgan Yeomanry were employed on Coastal Defences and sent to the Suffolk coast in September 1915. The biggest change for the regiment came in June 1916, when the 2/1st South Wales Mounted Brigade was broken up, and instead the 2/1st Glamorgan Yeomanry formed the 2nd (Pembroke and Glamorgan) Yeomanry Cyclist Regiment, 1st Cyclist Brigade. By this time, it was likely that Jones had been conscripted and sent to Europe. When he served with the Territorials, Jones commissioned as Squadron Sergeant Major.
