Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society, silver type III (To Arthur P. Boughey. For Gallant Service. 10/4/38.), in fitted case of issue, extremely fine

Awards for Gallant Ferrymen

A very pleasing ceremony took place at the Town Hall on Monday evening prior to the meeting of the Ferries Committee, when Alderman F. Stanley Atkin, Chairman of the Committee, presented (on behalf of the Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society) awards to Mate Arthur Boughey and Stageman Dennis Sullivan. These were in recognition of gallantry on the evening of April 10th, Easter Monday, when the recipients rescued a man who had fallen into the river. The rescue was successfully carried out under very difficult circumstances, owing to the man having fallen between the S.S. "Wallasey", moored alongside the stage, and the stage itself, during the incidence of a rough sea. Alderman Atkin referred to the splendid conduct of these officials, which, he said, was typical of all the traditions of the Ferries Service - a fact of which Wallaseyans are justly proud.
