M.B.E. London Gazette 12 June 1965:

'For service as President of the Council of Chiefs, Rhodesia'.

Chief Zwimba at one time was a member of the B.S.A. Police and an Interpreter with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and later became President of the Council of Chiefs. Upon the visit of British Prime Minister Harold Wilson in October 1965, Zwima was photographed with him wearing these awards. He died in April 1976, aged 89.

The Independence Decoration was instituted in 1970 by Presidential Warrant with the first awards being made in the same year. It was awarded to those individuals who took a notable and significant part in the time around the Declaration of Independence. A total of 29 awards of the decoration were made between 1970 and 1979 of which 28 were made in 1970 with the 29th being given out in April 1979.
