The M.S.M. awarded to Company Quartermaster Sergeant A. R. Jenkins, 6th Battalion, East Kent Regiment, who was wounded in action on 27 July 1916

Arthur Robert Jenkins was born at Birmingham in 1889, the son of Arthur and Eliza Jenkins of Watford. He attested in September 1914 and was posted to the 9th Battalion East Kent Regiment where he was advanced Lance Sergeant in January 1915. Further promoted Sergeant on 16 June 1915 Jenkins entered the war in France on 20 October 1915 with the 6th Battalion (1914-15 Star).

Serving with this unit for the rest of the war Jenkins was advanced Company Quartermaster Sergeant on 4 November 1915. He was present for their bloody action at Ovillers in the opening week of the Somme Offensive, suffering 374 losses the unit withdrew from the line. They did not return until later that month on 27 July when they returned to the Ovillers sector, that same day Jenkins was wounded in action.

Surviving his wounds he was demobilised on 11 March 1919 and settled back in Watford where he worked as a Railway Clerk. Jenkins died at the Peace Memorial Hospital, Watford on 2 January 1961; sold together with copied research.
