M.M. London Gazette 13 March 1918. A citation can be found in the Huddersfield War Hospital Museum:
'Pte. Walker has been awarded the Military Medal for bravery and devotion to duty. On 13 September [perhaps December] 1917, at Eppy in the Cambrai Section, Pte. Walker formed one of a party which set out on a bombing raid. They reached their objective, a machine gun emplacement, caught the enemy off their guard, made one or two Prisoners and blew the post up, killing several of the enemy and destroying the gun. Walker was admitted to this Hospital in July, having been wounded in March.'
Henry Walker was a native of Huddersfield and was born circa 1896. Enlisting in February 1916 with the York and Lancaster Regiment, he served on the Western Front with the 10th Battalion, Green Howards. Having won his M.M. and then been wounded, he was discharged with a Silver War Badge on account of the severity of his wounds on 18 September 1918. Walker lived at Thorncliffe Street, Lindley.
