Auction: 25088 - The Nicholas Rhodes Collection of Nepalese Coins Part I
Lot: 133

Nepal, Pratap Simha Shah (1775-1777), Mohar, SE 1695 (1773), struck for export to Tibet, Obv. trident in central circle, legend around within square, Rev. sword with garland within central circle, eight separate petals around, 5.26g, 12h (RGV 636, type 3), about very fine, rare

Provenance

The Nicholas Rhodes Collection of Nepalese Coins and Medals: Part One

Bhupendra Narayan Shrestha, by private treaty, August 1989

Nicholas Rhodes suggests that the date 1695 must have been engraved in error, as it is very unlikely that Prithvi Narayan would have allowed his son to strike coins in his own name during the former’s lifetime (RGV. p. 133).
