1856 (3 Nov.) letter to the Postmaster-General written by James Dutton outlining the benefits of his rouletting machine which accompanied the original unused block of twenty-four of the 1856 Diadem 1d., which has subsequently been broken up. An important historical document relating to the experimental separation of stamps from New South Wales, and the Postmaster-General's subsequent purchase of a perforating machine.
