TC, good to large margins, just touched at foot, tied by red Maltese Cross of Ardrossan to 1841 (11 May) entire letter to Hamilton, the reverse with boxed Ardrossan d.s. in matching ink and black Hamilton arrival d.s. for the following day. Attractive and very rare, being the earliest of four recorded examples from Ardrossan; R.P.S. Certificate (1991). Spec. A2va, £24,000

Notes: Gibbons note that the best examples of the red Maltese Cross on 1d. red-brown originate from Ardrossan, Hayle, Billericay and Rugeley, of which Ardrossan is among the rarest.
