William Spooner envelope number 1, dated 22 Aug. 1840 and used from London to Norwich, endorsed "Prepaid", rated "1" (crossed through) and "2" in manuscript, dated markings on reverse; the envelope, with a variety of humorous notations on the front, roughly opened, ink burning and the right hand flap missing. Nevertheless rare.
