Mackay Essays
5/- photographic essay (37 x 42mm.) titled 'annexure "a" ' and affixed to part of the De La Rue record sheet (148 x 247mm. cut-down), below is affixed 'annexure "b" ' (64 x 131mm.) comprising Springbok watermark designs with a central sketch of the head of a Springbok and designs "a" and "b",the accepted design being "b"; also on the reverse of the sheet, a type-written estimate of stamps required over a five-year period, originally marked 'annexure "c" ' giving proposed figures for the different values from ½d. to 10/- as well as booklet and coil stamps.
This shows that the Mackay Essays were seriously considered for use as the First Union Definitives and that the Springbok Head Watermark was already conceived in 1911/12; fine and very rare
