Anglo-Sikh War
1846 (Jan.) wrapper to the King of Nepal,  the wrapper band bearing a very fine strike of Ramanya Upadhya seal in black; a translation of the summary, "A battle was fought between the English and Sikhs at Badval Ludiyana at 28 January. Many Sikhs were killed and the troops of the Sikhs retreated across the Satrudra River, as the Sikhs could not carry their heavy guns ... and the artillery equipment, the English got victory over the Sikhs. In that occasion the English observed a festival having 21 fires in Calcutta Fort ..."; with translation. An interesting cover describing the battle of Aliwal which was fought on 28 January 1846.
