Thirteenth Dalai Lama
1926 (Feb.) cover to Major F.M. Bailey in Sikkim bearing 1tr. rose-carmine, shiny ink tied by Lhasa postmark and bearing a good wax seal of the thirteenth Dalai Lama with dot and crescent (Dawson 6) (some cracking), the reverse bearing a good strike of Phari type 1 postmark. The notes on the outside translate, "... while in Lhasa you informed me that you hoped to run the British Mail between Gyantse and Phari by motor: that you submitted a proposal to the Government of India, who have sanctioned it: that you hope to purchase the cars soon and run the dak by cars instead of by ponies: and that the communications between the Tibetan Government and their Officials and yourself will be quicker ...".
