John 'Lacklands' (1199-1216), 'Shortcross' Penny, c. 1206, Class 5b3, London, Ricard, hENRICVS R | EX, crowned bust facing, 'broken eye punches', pelleted curls 2/2, rev. + RICARD • ON • LVN, voided short cross pommée, cross pommées in angles, 1.45g, 8h, i.m. cross pattée (Mass 1421; North 970; S.1351), some peripheral striking softness, otherwise a delightful example of the 'broken eye punch' variety, the central devices striking and bold, very fine, toned, rare in this presentable state
