Hiberno-Norse (c. 1065-1100), Phase V, 'Facing Bust / Long Cross' Type, Penny, Dublin, stylised legend, crude bearded facing bust, annulet eyes and curvilinear mouth and moustache, rev. stylised legend, voided long cross, crude hand in first quarter, annulet-with-tail symbol in fourth, retrograde S with triple pellets in second and third, 0.62g [9.54gns] (SCBI 8 [British Museum] -; cf. SCBI 32 [Ulster Museum], 309; SCBI 22 [Copenhagen], 235; S.6176), chipped between 2 and 4 o'clock, and struck flat to peripheries, nonetheless of excellent fabric with pleasing detailing to beard and mouth, the dies unlisted across Syllogae of Coins of the British Isles, presumably extremely rare thus

Seven examples listed by Gaister in SCBI 22 [Copenhagen] originated from a hoard of coins discovered in Northern Italy in the late 19th century and were later dispersed by the Frankfurt dealer Adolph Hess.
