1856 "Hidalgos"
Zacatecas 8r. Lilac, used on registered cover front from Sombrerete to Zacatecas dated May 24, 1860, and arrival on May 28 alongside. Stamp has large margins all around. Front is creased and slightly aged. On reverse, on May 28, annotated as received by the addressee and signed, as stipulated by the postal rules. Very few registered fronts have survived, as the standard procedure was to return them to the originating post office as proof of receipt, where they were kept for two years before being destroyed. Sold for $5,000 in the 2000 Regency auction (lot #6085). Signed Shelton. 2024 MEPSI certificate. Scott 5.
