A150, dated 8 June 1840, addressed to London, upright and central red Maltese Cross cancellation, on reverse Hemel Hampstead despatch and red arrival datestamps. Inscribed on the flap "The first piece of penny postage" in a contemporary hand, possibly that of the recipient. A little soiled and small stain on reverse. A rare and delightful envelope
