This issue marks the first coinage issued by the central government of Tibet. The coin is a prototype for the later series of Sino-Tibetan coins issued in year 58. It was rejected by officials as it does not bear a Chinese legend and therefore never entered circulation. On the later Tankas and Shos the eight auspicious symbols were replaced by a Chinese translation of the Tibetan legend.
