Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta (1417-1468), lord of Rimini, Fano and Senigallia, was the natural son of Pandolfo Malatesta. He succeeded his Uncle Carlo in 1429. The prominent title on the obverse, Captain General, was bestowed upon Sigismondo in 1445 by Pope Eugenius IV. In the same year he captured the fortress of Rocca Contrada near Arcevia.
