Cnut 'the Great' (1016-1035), 'Pointed Helmet' Type, Penny, 1023-1029, Ipswich, Leofing, + CNVT REX ANGL, crowned and draped bust left, wearing pointed helmet, trefoil-pointed sceptre before, ref. + LIFINC : ON GIPESPI : voided short cross in pellet-tipped quatrefoil, 1.03g [15.98gns], 12h (Hildebrand 949 [Type G]; SCBI 11 [Reading], 113; Doubleday 201 same dies; Haddenham 250 same dies; North 787; BMC XIV; S.1158), lightly crimped, otherwise uniformly struck-up and lightly toned, about extremely fine, an historically very rare type, even after the discovery/dispersal of the 'Cambridge' hoard (c. 1993)
