A '• DNO •' FACTVM • EST • ISTVD : Z • EST • MIR, ship surmounted by square-topped shield and mast dividing P and M, wire line inner circles both sides, 2.498g [38.55grns], 4h, m.m. lys (Ruding, pl. IX, 6; Kenyon, fig. 82; S.2497), a minor flan split at 7 o'clock and subtly crimped, with a trace of doubling to obverse legend, otherwise uniform and even for strike, with an attractive buttery-gold tone, only a really bold fine to bordering on very fine, but one of only THREE KNOWN specimens, with a magnificent pedigree, a true 'sleeping giant' of the Carrington Cabinet, in NGC Black 'Carrington' holder, graded VF25 (Cert. #8536701-002)
